The ZOOMIES. . .

Updated: Jan 22, 2022

What do YOU call it? the Zoomies, the Scoots, Fido 500, Spaz attack. . . well, there's actually a name for it, Frenetic Random Activity Periods (FRAPs). A sudden release of pent-up energy, release from over-stimulation and/or stress release. Puppies and younger dogs are more prone to the behavior, but older dogs may continue to get the zoomies once in a while. Burn energy in your dog not only through physical exercise but through mental exercise, too; training (teach new skills or tricks), mind games like puzzles and making choices.

"A typical happy zooming dog will be loose and wiggly, bouncing around you when he slows down. Tongue may flap out of his mouth, and he may play bow, tuck butt and tail as they run. . . " (Dog Watch, Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine, Vol 24, No. 9, p. 6)
